Softball and Flight of the Conchords
Bug’s team: 0 wins, 2 losses
BUT! Bug did good! She got a hit! She scored! Right now their team is machine pitch, but they will be switching over to live pitch soon. We all think Bug has potential to be a good pitcher, so she played the position of “pitcher” last night, where the machine pitches but she fields the ball. And she did good. My Dad talked to her once about talking back to him, and I said something to her once about doing attention-seeking behavior with the other coach, but other than that she did good. I’m proud of the little muchkin.
Thanks for your house rules too! I’m still trying to figure out what to do in regards to the Callie situation. There is more too it, as well, because she tends to not eat in order to lose weight. So I think part of the “I don’t like this” issue has to do with her trying to get out of eating meals. Which obviously is not good. Callie had a major breakdown last night, just sobbing her eyes out. In some ways I’m glad, because she felt comfortable enough to express how she felt, and although she didn’t want to talk at first, she did open up and talk about why she was sad. Which is progress.
Oh! I get to give something away to you folks! There is a new show on HBO called Flight of the Conchords.
About the show:
Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The band is made up of Bret McKenzie on guitar and vocals, and Jemaine Clement on guitar and vocals.
Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. So far they’ve managed to find a manager (whose “other” job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop) — but not much else.
You can watch the full first episode on the website.
If you are the lucky winner you get:
1 Robot Stress Reliever
1 DVD of the 1st episode
1 Poster
1 Tshirt
1 Postcard
And the overwhelming joy that comes from knowing you won. To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post. About anything. Bug will pick the winner next Friday, June 1st.
Good Luck!

Sounds like she is really enjoying her softball. I can’t get mine to try it, she thinks it looks boring. Whatever. Glad you could talk with Callie a bit. I was a really bad eater at 15 and somedays I would eat only toast with nothing on it, or I would eat dinner only, and maybe an apple in the afternoon. Most of it had to do with body image and self esteem, but alot of it had to do with just wanting to eat better, and my family wasn’t. I never became anorexic or bulimic, but my mom just reminded me about nutrition and my health and she let me figure things out, and after a few years I started to use things like butter and mayo and sugar and salt and life is fine. I don’t think it is abnormal, but she also needs to eat when everyone else does, and at least wait until Bug’s asleep before she makes any side meals.

I think team sports are so good for kids like Bug!! I am glad she is doing well:-)
I also wish you luck with Callie. Hopefully you can help her with her body image, and even maybe help her make good food choices with healthy foods.
BTW, I wanna win:-) Pick me, Pick me!!

Glad to hear softball is going well for Bug & there’s progress with Callie.

Since Callie is not eating because of body image I would think twice about letting her fix her own meals. Sounds like she really needs an adult to teach her about nutrition and diet before she does all the wrong things. Maybe give her control over preparing one meal a week? She could learn how to meal plan, shop with a budget, cook and have control over what she eats without battling you in the process.

I third the talking about nutrition thing. I have problems with food myself and I think if I had had someone saying positive things about eating in food, instead of “Oh my God I gained 5 pounds” or whatever, I would have been a bit better off.

Yay Bug! Sounds like the softball is going well.

I agree with what most else have been saying. It is important to discuss healthy eating, but also to be careful to not over discuss this eating behaviour, as im sure your aware, it can become such a behavioural (attention seeking) aspect as well. I’m sure your insticts will tell you what the real problem is for Callie.
P.S I dont want to win this, but i am from New Zealand!!! Go New Zealand comedy!!!!!!!!!

I like the idea of her shopping and helping to plan.

Congrats on the score, Bug!
I used to play T-ball, but I made a terrible out-fielder — used to lead ladybug-finding expeditions instead of catching the ball

Me, I just want to win! I’m a huge fan of Flight of the Conchords! Lovely to see them getting mentioned in all sorts of places!

I am the mother of a 15 yr old daughter. Body issues are extreme. I think it is great that you are letting her pick out some recipes that she would like to try. Nutrition is important, however, feeling like you are part of the decision process is even more important. She is lucky to have you as a foster mom. She probably hasn’t had the opportunity to make many decisions for herself coming from an unstable family.

Congrats on the softball…and thanks for pointing out a cool new show! I was thrilled to be able to see it, since I can’t get HBO here in Japan.

I used to play softball. One day the other team needed one of our players to bat for them, because they were short a player, or something. So my team sent me over. Fortunately I didn’t figure out the implications of that until much, much later. I’m glad Bug is having fun!
