Ipod
When we moved to the BDH, my Ipod went missing. I figured it had been packed away in a box somewhere. I had about five or six boxes that I hadn’t unpacked yet. But then I did. And it wasn’t there.
And I happened to mention it yesterday. That I couldn’t find it.
Today Bug’s teacher wrote to say Bug had a pink Ipod at school that “some girl had given her.” Her teacher knew it wasn’t true.
Apparently Bug took my Ipod around the time we moved. And gave it to a girl who gave it to another girl to charge. Who then gave it to a boy who gave it to a girl who gave it back to Bug today.
I hope they enjoyed the Avenue Q soundtrack.
This is a 300 dollar Ipod with around 400 dollars worth of songs.
The teacher said it is very scratched up. No idea whether my songs are still there. Most are on my computer still, but I did lose a lot when my hard drive crashed.
I have to go to the school now and pick it up.
I’m not happy. At least she can’t blame this on the other kids. This happened months before they came.

Well… Once again, I have no answers. My stepson, 11, stole my husband’s $500 cellphone (yes, it is stealing- not borrowing- no need to argue semantics. Same as stealing food that does not belong to you, etc) and gave it to a friend. Then repeatedly denied stealing it. FINALLY, he admitted to taking it and my husband managed to get it back- but it’s more then a little frustrating.
But I can top that. If you want to hear something MUCH worse that just happened today- just let me know. It might make you feel a little better about Bug’s behavior today- or at least you can say- “Least she didn’t do THAT!” because this incident involved the police, the school prinicipal and his teacher.

Oh, dude, NOT COOL. In my family, that is one of the most NOT COOL things one person can do to another - the iPod is sacred ground. One of the commandments in our family Bible: Thou shalt not touch thy family member’s media devices! Of course, worse stealing can happen, but still, I hope she learns a valuable lesson from whatever consequences you impose about this.

Oh, she is SO busted.
I’m glad you got it back, at least. I also lost my iPod when I moved, and it totally sucked, especially because it was a gift from my husband on our last Christmas together. I have his, so I’m not iPod-less, but it still bothers me that I lost the one he gave me.
Good luck coming up with a punishment for Bug. The only one I could think of was making something she loves mysteriously “disappear” while she’s at school one day, but I suspect that you can’t teach someone not to steal by stealing from them.

hopefully the songs are still on there, because if you bought songs, the Ipod now puts the stuff back on your computer. Bug is doomed

This is a really funny thread. Everyone sounds so gleeful! As if they all get to watch the real fun start now: oh WHAT will she DO to her!! Tune in tomorrow!!!!! LOL! I am glad it is not me who has to make that decision.

have you tried offering an amnesty day? she gets one day to fess up to prior sins without getting in trouble. it might empower her to tell you about things like the ipod that might have started out simply, and ended up complicated.
You know your daughter, and whether this would backfire, just a little assvice from a stranger.
