Tiptoe
Last time I started the foster/adopt process I became OBSESSED with finding a child. I spent hours on the photolistings. Every one. I updated, made charts, harassed Cammie. The photolistings are a strange thing. First, they don’t tell you anything. Bug wasn’t photolisted, but when I received her profile it basically just said she liked basketball (which she has never played before.) It gave no inkling as to as any of the problems she had.
Also, the photolistings are terribly outdated, and even when they are up to date, sometimes the workers aren’t ready to find a home then anyway. After I was already in visits with Bug, I got multiple calls about people interested in talking to me about other children. Some of them were MONTHS after I had Bug home.
This time around, I’ve been avoiding the photolistings. First off, I knew I had to get relicensed but I also didn’t want to become obsessed again. But last night, I had a look through them and I found an in-state sibling group that I was interested in. This morning I sent off an email to their worker.
She sent me back some information on the kids, and without going into details, it seems like they would be a perfect fit for us. They have very similar issues to Bug and have gone through some things that I am an expert at dealing with.
Their life circumstances are eerily similar to Bug’s.
I’ve talked to the worker on the phone (ON THE PHONE?!!?) and they are planning a staffing for January. I’m working on having my homestudy sent in.
I am not going to get too invested in this though because I don’t want to be disappointed.
There was a time in my life where I felt like there was no way I would be able to have children. But now, I’ve got several ways which I might add to my family..I’m excited to see which path I’ll end up going down.

I am excited for you. In the future I will probably doing the same thing you are. Kids are a lot of work but well worth it. I am blind and would like to adopt a child who is blind. I feel like I could give that child a good start in life with the experiences I have. Good luck!

Obsessed with photolistings. Sounds like someone I know.

How exciting. We did the same thing with the photolists. Our first experience was with a little girl - we thought the process was more like shopping on line. Boy did we learn fast. Most of the kids are already in homes, and very few have meaningful information. I guess we just rely on the powers that be.
