Houses
Soooo..my new friend, who actually lives in my town and not instead of my computer, works from home. And so does her husband. And yesterday, Geo had to get fingerprinted for his foster care license and he was here by 3:30 pm and he went to pick up the kids with me and was here for dinner and IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER. Seriously, I haven’t had that good of an afternoon in three years.
So now I’m obsessed with finding him a job that he can do from home. Because his job sucks. So if you need an employee with over 10 years of sales experience (well, probably closer to 15 years..) then email me!
Alright then!
My house is coming along. My file was submitted to the underwriter who said they wanted a note from…CAMMIE. Which I’m sure you can imagine my excitement, but Cammie actually did it right away. Of course, it was completely wrong, but then she fixed it. So I was happy about that and didn’t have to punch anyone in their face.
My official closing date is supposed to be mid-June, but then my mortgage guy was all like, “Hey, I’m going to try to get you to close on May 21st” and I’m all like, “But the offer said June 19th” and then the seller’s agent called me yesterday and said that the sellers were all freaked out because they thought that something would fall through and they would have packed up for nothing.
I understand their concern because they own about 950,000 little knicknacks. I was certain that one of my children was going to knock down a shelf and it would start a chain reaction that wouldn’t stop. So somehow they are going to have to pack up their life size cut out of the Pillsbury Dough Boy and get out my house! (Get out my house! Get out my house!) (One of the new songs on my rap record)
Yesterday, the appraisal came back. Everyone was worried about the appraisal because apparently with the market the way it is, all the appraisals have come back at either right at the selling price or below it and that causes all sorts of problems. But the house appraised for well over the selling price, the title work is done, and my loan seems to be progressing nicely.
So the latest I heard is that they are going to try to close in a week or so, if possible and then negotiate with the sellers on possession. I’m not sure how that all will work out, but I’m hoping to hear something from the agent today as to what the sellers said.
Worst case scenario, I’ll be in my new house in a month..and it is possible that I could be in there sooner.
And let me tell you..I CAN NOT WAIT. I think about it all the time. It is going to be such an improvement over this house that I can not fathom how wonderful it will be.
(Get out my house! Get out my house!)
P.S. Did anyone see the MTV Movie Awards commercial that says “If you win one Juno don’t give it away.” YUCK.

I am so so so happy for you. I just moved into a new(to me) and wonderful larger house too. Now if I could just get it cleaned……

I would really, really, really push to not have closing until they leave the house. The problem is that residency is 9/10ths of the law when it comes to getting rid of unwanted residents. IE, if you close, they stay in the house till June 19, you plan to move in on the 20th, and they aren’t out yet, you are out of luck. They can stay until you get the police to kick them out. (Some states, that’s REALLY hard to do.)
If you have to do it to close sooner, make certain they are paying rent for every DAY they are in the house to give them incentive to get out of there. And they should pay rent–you are responsible for the taxes and insurance from the day you close. Not to mention the mortgage, of course. They are renters and should pay for the right to live in a house they do not own. And then, if they don’t leave, you at least still get money for them being there.
Good luck!

Makes sense AnnMarie. I am hoping they will just go ahead and get out. I’m waiting to hear back from the agent. Charging per day is a good idea. (Get out my house!)

Woohoo!!! So exciting about the new house! And I’m glad things seem to be going according to plan, with the exception of the closing date. I hope you get that all worked out soon

Do not close until after the house is vacant.

I don’t know about all the vacancy stuff - but I know I’m very happy for you. This is exciting stuff!

Don’t forget to pack a “first day” box with TP, paper towels, garbage bags, cleaning products, some energy bars, plastic cups and utensils, a few paper plates, a clock of some sort, sheets for the mattresses, and a phone. It’s saved me more than once on my moves. Best wishes for a speedy and smooth move.

I’m excited for you all and the house stuff. I do wonder though how wonderful it would be if Geo were actually home ALL day, every day. I LOVE the special days when Hubby gets home early or doesn’t go in for one reason or another, but to have him in the house, underfoot, when I’m trying to get stuff done (or lay around) and he gets kinda grumpy when he is with us for too many days in a row without a break. Instead of being able to step out and comeback and “rescue” you, he will be part and parcel to the problems. I do think he needs a job where he is home more, for everyones sake, but maybe where he can work in/work out at his discresion? Just a thought. Good luck with everything.

I’ve never heard of closing before the old owners vacate. Maybe it’s an american thing? I agree with the previous posters, I would be very careful of that.
If you figure out a work from home job for Geo let me know. My hubby would love to work from home too!
