Swimsuit shopping has gotten a little better since then. On a wider scale, consumer access to brands, both mass and indie, has improved tremendously since the early s. I can try out and report on! Finding supportive, aesthetically pleasing swim options can make me feel like a lost teen rifling through racks, waiting to be pleasantly surprised. Or relieved. Comfortable in both one- and two-piece options, I decided to embark on an experiment: to try on some suits with help and guidance from in-house experts at brands specializing in swimwear for full busts , and determine which were the absolute best.

Of all the swimsuits I tried, the 11 below are my favorites, each for very specific reasons. The designer invited me to her studio for a fitting by her team.

When she pulled out what appeared to be a narrow, square-neck top, I grew nervous that we were headed in the wrong direction. In my experience any swim top that looks like a narrow shelf bra is bound to be followed by underboob and the sensation that your top could collapse at any moment.

In complete disclosure, the fit was so spot-on because Mills was able to make small tweaks to the suit to fit my shape. When I started this experiment, Aerie was one of the first names I had on my list to try. I was kind of shocked I found two options from the store that fit me well, my favorite of which was this classic one-piece. The Aerie team told me the style is a best-seller for the brand.

What I also like about this suit is its price, its range of color options, and its sizes currently running from an XXS to XXL, with long torso options available too. After I did about two laps around my apartment, this bikini top from Australian brand The Fold didn't move. Not a bit. This style fit just like one of my bras. What really won me over, though, was how, despite having a substantial amount of cleavage, the cups in the top stayed in place even when I was moving around.

As timing would have it, she was in the middle of launching her own swim collaboration collection with PrimaDonna, hoping to address those very issues. While Dalbesio suggested a couple of bra-silhouette styles, I liked this triangle-shaped top from the line best of all. Typically, this silhouette can call for a lot of adjusting to get the desired shape and avoid sideboob. However, when I tried it on, it was obvious it was made for a bustier frame.

As mentioned before, finding a well-fitting suit is only partly about size. Ultimately I want a suit I feel fits me and makes me feel comfortable, confident, and like myself. Did I feel supported but not constrained? Was my shape defined but not exposed beyond my comfort? Did it complement my personal style? The best options did all these as well as physically fit in terms of measurements. So while this Mikoh style was cut smaller on me than other one-piece options, it feels amazing and easily qualifies as a favorite.

It's comfortable, soft, and refreshingly easy to wear. Here was no potential underboob or spilling out the top—which is, personally, ideal.

As soon as I tried on this top—with its underwire, crisscross straps, bra clasp, and tiny X-shaped detail just at the cleavage—I felt ready for anything. A swim, a Jet Ski ride, or a Baywatch sprint along the sand.

For starters, I spent a few extra minutes sitting around in this swimsuit just because the ribbed material is so comfortable. The shape is impressive too. In fact, there were plenty of other suits I ended up really liking. In no particular order, here are some honorable mentions—and what they got right. Plus, the brand itself is one to root for: It offers inclusive sizing from XS to 3X and takes a sustainable approach to design by working with recycled polyester.

In my case, I think my size was probably somewhere between a medium and large—I needed the bigger size for the coverage and smaller size for the straps. I was very pleasantly surprised by the fit. Personally, it was too much cleavage for my taste, but I love the texture and the price. In person, this suit is very cute style, but the F-cup top was way too small on me.

My favorite feature of this wrapped top is that it hooks in the back, allowing the wearer to feel secure in the fit before wrapping the decorative sash. This style is also one of the few I tried that sell by bra size but not in traditional underwire bra shape.

On this style specifically, I found the straps a little tricky to adjust by myself, so it took me a couple tries to get the suit on with the straps at the right length. I was so excited to order this suit because I loved the colors. In person, they looked even prettier. These are very sturdy straps—great for support, but also a bold look. Also to note: The fabric is supersoft, and these midrise bottoms fit like a dream.

I barely own strapless bras, let alone strapless swimwear. I tried a size large in this top and it fit well—just a little bit of sideboob but not enough to make me size up. There are three very important things to know about this swimsuit. It's made of Ecolyn yard, which is created with nylon waste such as from fishing nets. It's yet another shelf bra that surprisingly fits my bust well, but I suspect it would fit even better if I were a couple inches taller or if it had adjustable straps.

And finally, I'm obsessed with the high-cut bottoms—like, please-watch-me-do-my-Joan-Smalls-runway-walk obsessed. This suit looked even cuter in person than it did online. I liked that it had a bit of underwire in the top to support an otherwise low neck. All products featured on Glamour are independently selected by our editors. Funnily enough, swimwear is actually my fave and what I feel best in. I honestly hate plastic clasps with a passion. My solution is to only shop from brands that offer strap closures in the back. All of their suits have tie closures in the back, so if I need to get a larger top to fit my boobs I can still have a snug fit around my waist. While cups and straps are really key for a secure fit, if you find a suit that has super solid compression like the gorgeous ones LONDRE makes, worn here in Maui , you can get away without both cups and strap closures and still be relatively secure!

The one thing I do notice though after a long beach day in a triangle top is that my neck can be in major pain from the weight of my boobs pulling on them all day. Tash Oakley is highlighting how that looks here! Since this style is a bit less supportive than around the neck, I usually wear a triangle top around my neck until it starts getting a bit sore then switch it up for a bit and tie it on the back straps.

Having a strong and supported upper back also relieves a lot of lower back pain. Again, a lot of these tips can be applied to any body type—that triangle top hack looks great on any chest size, smaller chests will majorly benefit from sewn-in cups too and I think given that each one of us is slightly or wildly different in our proportions and sizes, looking for those back straps is key for just about anyone! Great tips!

Plastic clasps should be banned—look for strap closures I honestly hate plastic clasps with a passion.
