I hope it comforts you to hear that this is an issue that is often harder for the mommies than for the children. When my daughter shared in kindergarten about visiting her mother for a birthday extravaganza, the other children were totally wondering where their birthday mother was hiding out. The teacher was really laughing when she told me about it.
Now, at age nearly 13, DD has no problem having a birthday mother and the old reliable mother. She knows what to expect (and not to expect) from each. (In fact, she is reading over my shoulder as I write and is wondering aloud about the horse she "ordered" from birthday mother. hahaha.)
I hope you get to this place of peace as time moves on. The sooner the better. It is nice to be the mother with the answers :)

I have to confess, I wondered what you answered. I hope you gave that sweetie a big ol' hug though.

Wish we could reach through the screen and give one to you.

I think I would answer that I will always love her like a mommy, and that I would be her mommy as long as she needed me to be.

I'm sorry you all are going through this very rough road, and no matter how it turns out, that it works well for everyone involved.

Looks like I'm not the only one!
