Other ways to give gifts to foster kids..
A few people have asked for other ways to give foster children gifts, particuarly those who live in their local area.
I would first recommend contacting your local DFS and asking what you can do. You could also look for a local foster parent organization.
If anyone has information on other organizations that need gifts for foster children, let me know and I will post them.
Here is one I found in Southwest Florida:
Christmas gifts sought for foster children
The Children’s Network of Southwest Florida is the agency charged with the responsibility of more than 1,800 children across five counties in Southwest Florida. All of these children have been abused, neglected or abandoned in some fashion. Some of these children remain in their homes with the network’s supervision; the majority of others of have been taken from their homes and placed into foster care.
In Charlotte County, there are 165 of these children; 100 of whom have been removed from their homes.
These children, through age 18, live in your community. It is the network’s goal to provide each child with two gifts. These gifts do not have to be expensive, and you can buy for whatever age group you would like. If you can help, call Aimee McLaughlin at 239-226-1524.
Here is some info in Charleston, South Carolina.
Here is some info on Western Illinois.
Here is some info from North Andover, Massachusetts.

you can also contact your local CASA organization. You can find your local CASA by going to http://www.nationalcasa.org/. This is an organization that trains volunteers to be a voice in court for foster kids. They become Court appointed Guardian Ad Litems and work independantly of “the system” to determine what is in the child’s best interest.

There was this site advertised in Adoptive Families magazine: http://pajamaprogram.org/ to give warm sleepware and books for foster kids and other kids waiting to be adopted, in New York, across the US and worldwide.

Thanks Baggage. I will see if we have a local Foster Parent Organization and see if I can donate stuff to them. Our DSS Or (DFS) kind of not very reliable and doesn’t seem to want to be bothered with stuff like this.
thanks again for the info

Please consider giving gift cards for older kids. Where I work, we get TONS of gifts for younger kids, but almost nothing appropriate for teens. The very best gifts for teens are gift cards they can use at whatever malls, fast food restaurants, or stores are local (very local, as sometimes they don’t have transportation.)
